Lola Cruz Mysteries by Melissa Ramirez

A couple of weeks ago I was heading out for a fun in the sun weekend at Hollywood Beach, Florida and I asked our amazing Facebook fans for some great recommendations for some traveling books!

Our fan Tammy really really came through for me and suggested I read the Lola Cruz mystery series by Melissa Ramirez because she knew of my amazing love and obsession with the Stephanie Plum series!

These books are (in order because we know how much I hate reading books out of order):

  1. Living La Vida Lola
  2. Hasta La Vista, Lola
  3. Bare-Naked Lola
There is also a Christmas themed prequel called the Lola Cruz Christmas Story that I may read right now rather than save it for Christmas time like I normally would because I am that sad to be through all three books that are currently out!

Lola was described to me as a Latin Stephanie Plum and with the characters involved in these books, the love interest stories, the mystery, and the suspense I must say I definitely agree! These books were hilarious and grabbed me from the very first couple of pages! I was hooked and I sped right through the following two books something I both love and hate! I love to be able to re-read them later on and learn new things but I hate that I get through them so fast!

If I had to put them in order from the one I liked the most to the least I would probably go with 1,3,2. I liked the second book don't get me wrong but I cracked up and laughed out loud on more than one occasion in the last one. The very first one of any series always seems to be my favorite. I love how we learn about the characters and their backgrounds and in a series you will learn that many of the future books twists have their groundwork laid for them in the very first book.

Go check the books out!

Skinny, Sexy Bride by Jason Fox - An Intro

As you all know by my numerous mentions throughout my posts I AM ENGAGED!!! Yes I know it's a shocker! As a partner in Read, Rate and Review I receive a lot of pitches from different book publishers and independent authors. When the pitch came up in my daily email for SKINNY, SEXY BRIDE, I immediately responded to the author because like all women (and men) preparing for an event where the attention will be on them, I am starting to feel insecure about how I will look on that day.

A little background about why this book is one that I really wanted to read and learn more about. When I was 13 I was diagnosed with Poly-cystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). With this disease came numerous prescription drugs and various treatments that were supposed to help keep my cyst production limited. I was very sick and the treatments did not work at all for me. I had around 13 surgeries in less than 7 years the final surgery being a total hysterectomy. What does this have to do with being a "Skinny, Sexy Bride"? Well throughout those 7 years I went from being a smaller child and a "skinny" child to being a horribly overweight and insecure woman. I went from being 5'1" and around 135 pounds to at my heaviest 252 pounds. Nothing I have ever done has worked. I have tried the diets, the pills, the killing myself at the gym and much to my avail I have not been able to conquer my weight problems.

Is this book going to work I don't know but I know that I will read it and report back to you all with my progress throughout the next few months. I will keep up with this books teachings as long as I can and I want to make this work. I want this book to be the answer to my now 16 year battle. I want to look the best I can for my future husband, my love. But most of all I want to look my best for ME. I want to really be happy when I get my pictures back and I look at them from time to time throughout my life. I want my nieces and nephews and who knows maybe even my own kids if we are blessed enough to be able to have a child of our own by means available to us with the changes in modern medicine to be able to look at the pictures we are going to have taken in exactly 129 days.

Exactly 15 pages and a Foreward into this book and I am hooked. Will this book be the answer to my prayers? I don't know. What I do know is that I will work my ass off to make sure that I do everything in my power to find out!

Stay tuned for the full review complete with before and after pictures!!!

Television Tuesdays: Scandal

From the crazy story lines to the amazing cast, this show is at the top of my list of shows to watch! I absolutely love love love this show!

For those of you who haven't watched it yet let me tell you a little about the show. It centers around a woman named Olivia Pope. She is the best "fixer' there is in the country and her headquarters are in Washington, DC. Now without giving too much away she works very closely with all of the big time players in the White House as well as anyone else who can afford her services.

She has a team of employees who call themselves the "White Hat Gladiators". They help out those people who have gotten themselves in a bind. From the President of the United States to Senators to wealthy CEO's of companies, they handle sticky situations and are pretty much amazing at their job. Right now we are in the middle of season two. Season One was great and you got to learn how each of her team members came to be a part of the team. You learn about the CIA agent who was living on the streets who is a computer guru who also happens to have a strange love to kill. The investigator that Olivia saved from a horribly abusive relationship. The lawyer who fell into a bad situation and is only a free man because of Olivia and finally the girl who has a dark but confused past and is still trying to learn things about herself.

I assure you that if you take the time to watch the very first episode you will be HOOKED! It is a fast paced show and my absolutely favorite parts of the show are the random monologues which last for what seems like forever and are spoken so quickly you may even have to rewind a little. It is by far my favorite new show of the 2011-2013 time span and I really hope you check it out.

You can watch the entire first season on Netflix or you can download them all off of iTunes or Amazon.

So go start watching now! The first season alone is worth the cost of any of these services and you will not regret it at all!

Let me know what you think of the show in the comments below!

Swimsuit by James Patterson

This book by James Patterson and Maxine Paetro chronicles the journey made by Ben Hawkins as he makes friends with the parents of a 20-something swimsuit model, gone missing. He's an ex-cop, sometimes author, and current reporter for the LA Times. The investigating strikes the fancy of the serial killer... who just happens to want his killing spree made into a tell-all autobiographical book. Ben Hawkins is the only one he'll allow to write it.

This book has everything you would expect from James Patterson. The blood, the guts, the goor. The suspense, the thrill, and of course the kill. Read at your own risk.. and maybe on an empty stomach.

Four out of five for me.
